The virus occupied Maharashtra crosses 1 lakh mark of Covid-19 cases which is highest in the country.

The financial capital that has become a virus capital of the country now has a tally of 1,01,141 Coronavirus cases, of which 3,493 new cases were reported on Friday. This includes 47, 796 recoveries and 3,717 fatalities.

Over the past 24hrs, 1,718 patients have recovered, while 127 have succumbed to the virus.

The bulk of the cases in Maharashtra continue to emerge from Mumbai. The city contributes more than half of the total positives in the state. Meanwhile, Pune district in Maharashtra reported 390 new Coronavirus cases in the last 24 hours, taking its Covid-19 tally to 11,202, as per the reports. 

The death toll reached 471 with 11 succumbing to the infection, a health official said.

“Of the 390 cases, 273 are in Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) limits, which now has 9,166 patients. However, 142 patients were also discharged from the hospitals,” the health official added. With 63 new cases in neighbouring Pimpri Chinchwad township, the Covid-19 figure there went up to 1,078.

Reportedly, the number of positive cases in rural parts of the district, in civil hospital and Pune Cantonment Board area increased to 958.

Maharashtra, which is now the epicentre of the virus, has already surpassed China—the country where the pandemic began—and other European nations like Portugal and Belgium that had seen an early surge but managed to flatten the virus curve.

Amid rising Covid-19 cases, Maharashtra’s Social Justice Minister Dhananjay Munde has also been tested positive for Coronavirus. He is stated to be asymptomatic and his condition is stable. Munde, a Nationalist Congress Party leader, had attended a state cabinet meeting earlier this week and taken part in the NCP’s foundation day event two days ago here.

He is a third Cabinet minister in Maharashtra to contract the Covid-19 virus. Jitendra Awhad (NCP) and Ashok Chavan (Congress) had earlier tested positive, but both have now recovered from the infection.

The rising cases of Coronavirus, however, have caused concerns and soon the rumours of a full lockdown— one with all restrictions excluding essential services— started appearing on social media. Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray clarified that the lockdown will not be reimposed.

The central government has suggested that the state carry out Covid-19 vulnerability mapping of densely populated areas, so that effective containment strategies can be implemented.

Tamil Nadu also registered a record hike in its daily coronavirus tally. At least 1982 fresh cases were confirmed on June 13. At 40,698, Tamil Nadu recorded the highest number of Covid-19 patients after Maharashtra.

The coronavirus pandemic was on a rise in the national capital. Delhi recorded 1,877 new coronavirus cases in the last 24 hours— highest in a single day. Delhi’s Covid-19 count reached 34,687 on June 11.

India has reported over three lakh cases of the highly infectious Covid-19 disease, caused by the coronavirus, days after the government announced its “Unlock1” plan. As of June 13, the cases rose with a spike of 11,458 fresh Covid-19 cases to reach 3,08,993 which includes 1,45,779 active cases, 1,54,330 recovered cases, 1 migrant patient, and 8,884 deaths and counting.
